Pearl Power Research Institute Limited (PPRI) was founded in February 2023 as a start-up of The University of Hong Kong, growing out of HKU's TSSU SEED Programme and the HKSTP Ideation Programme.
We work with local fishermen, marine researchers and Hong Kong research institutions to bring pearl oyster farming back to the city's waters — putting idle fish rafts back to work and turning rigorous marine science into products you can trust.
Our goal is more than a supplement: it is to reclaim a marine heritage that belongs to Hong Kong — the Pearl of the Orient.
Use of pearl shell powder in the preparation of antioxidants
Covers a preparation method that removes the outer shell layer, then crushes and grinds the nacre; molecular biology techniques and animal studies showed significant in vivo antioxidant potential.
Use of pearl powder in the preparation of detoxifying medicines
Combines the strengths of traditional detoxifying medicine with the natural properties of pearl powder, giving the Detox product line solid intellectual-property backing.
Composition for alleviating obesity and promoting gut health
With pearl oyster shell powder of 100–300 nm particle size as its sole active ingredient, it nourishes the gastrointestinal tract, promotes probiotic growth, repairs the gut barrier and inhibits inflammatory responses.
